How to make healthy desserts?
With a little experimentation and some good advice, even the least nutritious desserts can become healthy desserts.
Butter, cream and chocolate can turn even the most boring desserts into little pieces of heaven… Which are not exactly healthy. But with a little experimentation and some good advice, even the least nutritious desserts can be prepared with a good flavor and become a great option. Learn how to make healthy desserts.
- Add fruits and vegetables Instead of butter and oil, use half of what the recipe calls for and replace the rest with pureed fruits or vegetables. Not only does this substitution add natural sweetness (it can probably also cut down on sugar), many of these alternatives contain pectin, which helps create a texture similar to baked goods. And best of all, there are so many options: try unsweetened applesauce in muffin recipes, mashed potatoes in spice cakes, or pureed plums in brownies and the best chocolate cake recipes.
- Keep dairy light It’s no secret that using dairy makes what you bake even more delicious, but there are also ways to reduce the fat. For cakes with cream cheese frosting, like carrot cake, swap out the cream cheese for its lower-fat version for a healthy alternative. Cream can be substituted for evaporated skim milk, and skim milk is generally a good replacement for whole milk. Low-fat yogurt can not only replace its regular version, but can also be used in place of sour cream.
- Trim Some of the Top Let’s face it, many recipes call for an excessive amount of frosting and filling. This seems much more true now than in the past due to cupcake fanaticism bakery style. Some of those frosting towers can hold up to 1/2 cup of frosting to create Instagram-worthy things. Most frostings and fillings can be reduced by 25% without losing anything. So, without fear of lowering your sugar.
- For chocolate The good taste of chocolate chip cookies may seem irreplaceable, but a small change can help reduce the fat. Next time you prepare, lighten the bites and add a little cocoa powder for the same chocolatey flavor, but with much less fat. If you’re feeling adventurous, add a pinch of instant espresso powder to bring out the chocolate flavor (without making your dessert taste like coffee).
- Try vegan things It turns out that a lot of the fat in baked goods comes from animal products that are usually high in saturated fat. By using vegetarian recipes, you can skip the experimentation yourself and get something proven delicious that is probably much lower in unhealthy saturated fats. However, be careful with tropical oils. They are sometimes used in vegan recipes, but are still high in saturated fat.
