Will I feel hungry on this plan?

In the beginning you may experience some hunger as your body adjusts to getting the nutrients it needs from different food sources. But don't worry — this process lasts only a few days.

Will I regain the weight after finishing the program?

If you follow the Cambridge Weight Plan methodology, is it possible to regain the weight you lost?

Will I lose muscle mass on the Cambridge program?

No. The program helps you apply a calorie restriction and healthy eating approach while providing 100% of the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy.

Can I exercise while on the program?

Yes, the methodology can be combined with exercise so you can feel amazing in less time.

Do the products taste good?

What are the shakes made of?

They are made with a soy protein base and contain all the food groups your body needs to feel great, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals — all in the right amounts, with careful attention to every step of production.

Can I have the shakes if I am lactose intolerant?

Yes, we have a line of products specially created for those who cannot consume lactose-containing products.

Will I have to use the products forever?

At Cambridge Weight Plan we are passionate about changing lives. That is why our methodology is designed so that you gradually become less dependent on it and start feeling great on your own.

How much water should I drink?

It is very important to drink at least eight glasses of water per day. We must constantly replenish our body fluids. Adequate water intake is also necessary to keep the kidneys functioning well.

Why do I need to drink so much water?

There are many reasons. A good practical health guideline is to drink 2.25 litres per day while on the program, but you should always consult your doctor for the right amount, as it depends on several factors — especially if you are following the Cambridge methodology.

It is important to keep hydration levels as high as possible to avoid the unpleasant symptoms of dehydration: headaches, dizziness, fatigue, irritability and constipation.

Cambridge Weight Plan offers balanced nutrition with real support from a multidisciplinary team.

Therefore, it is ideal to drink 250ml of water before each Cambridge product to dilute the concentration of minerals and help prevent any feeling of nausea.

The extra fluid helps the body rid itself of the waste products associated with fat breakdown that result from weight loss.

Can I drink low-calorie drinks instead of black tea and coffee?

The Cambridge eating plan allows for supplementary products that can be used after the second week of a VLCD to add flavour to your water intake. It is also possible to sweeten tea and coffee using small amounts of diet vanilla flavouring within the daily allowance. A variety of herbal leaf teas (peppermint, nettle, etc.) can be added, but fruity and floral teas should be avoided as they contain small amounts of carbohydrates, which cause fluid retention and can lead to a plateau for those on the plan. Those who cannot live without enjoying a daily cup of tea or coffee with milk can continue on the plan by following one of the programs that include a daily milk allowance.

Is alcohol allowed while on Cambridge Weight Plan?

No. Alcohol contains 7 calories per gram and has no significant nutritional value.

Is coffee allowed on the Sole Source plan?

Drinking large amounts of coffee or fizzy drinks is not recommended. Decaffeinated versions are preferable if you feel you must drink them.

Caffeine acts as a stimulant on the body's systems and can sometimes have irritating effects. Herbal teas offer a more pleasant alternative.

Will I feel hungry on Sole Source?

This step only applies in certain countries — please consult your doctor or Consultant before any step. You will typically experience some hunger during the first two days of this plan as your body begins to adapt to a new eating phase and adjusts to its new balance of only 438kcal per day. This sensation usually ends by the third day after starting the change.

Logically, if we eat outside our assigned plan the results will not be as expected, because eating only stimulates more hunger. It is therefore best to respect the plan and avoid supplementing it with other foods.

Can I chew calorie-free gum on the Sole Source program?

It is best to avoid it, because chewing gum only stimulates the release of gastric acids, which in turn will make you feel hungry. Only chew for two or three minutes if absolutely necessary.

Will I need vitamin supplements while following the Cambridge Weight Plan methodology?

Unlike other programs, the Cambridge program does not require extra supplements. Our eating plans provide one-third of the recommended daily intake of vitamins, minerals and trace elements (essential nutrients needed in minimal amounts), so three servings per day give us the required amounts.

The main concern when people start the methodology is that reducing food intake also means reducing nutrient intake, which could jeopardise health. It is impossible to achieve complete nutritional support through conventional meals with fewer than 1200kcal. Even with extensive nutritional knowledge, a wide variety of foods must be consumed to ensure intake of all vitamins and minerals. Cambridge has solved this problem by formulating plans (above 1500kcal per day) that use the methodology as a nutritional foundation alongside conventional food. Cambridge Weight Plan clients can be confident they can reach their goals safely without compromising their health.

Do I need to have all three meals on the Sole Source plan?

Yes. The three Cambridge program meals provide all the nutrients needed to keep your body in good nutritional health throughout the day, and it is very important to consume them in full.

If I am very hungry, can I have a fourth meal?

People whose jobs require significant physical effort, or high-performance athletes, need additional energy for their activities. An extra Cambridge plan meal will be needed to provide that additional energy in a balanced way.

At what age should a person stop using Cambridge Weight Plan?

Anyone with medical complications should not follow any type of diet without medical supervision.

Can a 16-year-old use any of the Cambridge weight loss programs?

Yes, but not the Sole Source or 810kcal programs without a doctor's involvement. Young people aged 14 to 18 should be encouraged with healthy eating advice from the Balance of Good Health (Health Education Authority) and by increasing activity levels. If that is not successful, the Cambridge food program (1000 to 1500kcal) can be followed. The recommendations of this program are very specific, carefully structured and easy to follow.

Whenever possible, a parent or guardian should provide motivational support. If a low-calorie plan (Sole Source or 810kcal) is specifically required, parental involvement is essential to support the doctor. Young people need a great deal of support to stay motivated and to follow the program correctly, thereby achieving a realistic, stable and long-lasting weight goal.

Do I need to prepare before starting the Sole Source program?

Yes. Problems that arise when starting Sole Source can be prevented by preparing one week in advance of the agreed start date, gradually reducing food intake — particularly carbohydrates. This will prevent headaches caused by carbohydrate withdrawal and will speed up the onset of ketosis with all its benefits, primarily the reduction of hunger. Increase your water intake to 1.7 litres per day. Using a natural bulking agent (fibre) in appropriate amounts will help prevent future complications for those prone to constipation.

Consult your doctor if necessary. The preparation stage will prevent the Last Supper Syndrome. For example, going on a binge the day before starting Sole Source will increase glycogen stores, delaying the onset of ketosis and increasing feelings of fatigue and hunger.

We recommend preparing for one week before moving to the first step of your chosen weight loss program. For example, if you agreed to follow the 810kcal program, prepare with the 1000kcal program and then, under your doctor's supervision, step down to the program that best suits your goals.

When should I start thinking about weight maintenance?

From the very beginning. Anyone embarking on any Cambridge Weight Plan program should understand the importance of maintenance, regardless of the calorie level.

Maintenance should be an important consideration from the very first moment a person seeks support. Long-term maintenance success is only achieved by making long-term lifestyle changes. Cambridge Weight Plan is not a quick fix. The role of the Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant is an ongoing one.

Is exercise recommended while on Cambridge Weight Plan?

Do not start a strenuous exercise program at the same time as Cambridge Weight Plan. (If you are already following a vigorous exercise program, you should moderate it to a lower activity level for one or two weeks.)

Moderate exercise is helpful once you begin the methodology, as long as it is done with caution and not to excess. Walking or cycling is excellent exercise, but take it easy and do not overdo it if you are just starting out.

Does Cambridge Weight Plan contain enough protein when used as the sole source of nutrition?

Research underpinning the development of Cambridge Weight Plan indicates that the protein and carbohydrates provided by the methodology are sufficient to preserve lean tissue (fat-free body tissue).

Are Cambridge products suitable for vegetarians?

The product range contains one item that is not suitable for vegetarians: the chicken and mushroom soup, which uses chicken as a flavouring.
