5 healthy substitutes for sugar

Sugar is currently one of the main causes of death annually, it is a more common ingredient than we believe in many foods we consume. What healthier alternatives can there be? At least they don’t harm your health so much.

  • Honey.  This is the most obvious, one of the options we are most familiar with. Rich in vitamins, anti-microbials, it has been traditionally used as medicine. Always try to get the most natural version to ensure it retains the most nutrients.
  • Licorice Root. Probably the most used medicinal herb in China today. It has been used for thousands of years and is part of many traditional herbal medicine formulas.   • Agave Syrup. Native to Mexico. It has a glycemic index much lower than half the index of refined sugar. It is sweeter than regular sugar and as an extra fact, the less refined syrup has a darker color.

What you don’t know is that it is 150 times sweeter than sugar, it does not affect glucose levels and until now, it does not cause health problems.
