The term** Diabesity** occurs when 2 diseases coincide, obesity and diabetes. That is, when we find a person with obesity problems and who also suffers from type 2 diabetes. Both pathologies are closely related. A person with obesity problems has a high chance of also suffering from type 2 diabetes.
How are these two diseases related?
Obesity and type 2 diabetes have the same origin. The excess body fat, more specifically the fat that is located inside the abdomen (intra-abdominal fat). The most used measurement parameter is waist circumference. Accumulated fat has the ability to produce different substances, including adipokines. The more fat accumulated, the more the secretion of adipokines increases, which hinders the action of insulin. It is what is known as “glucose intolerance”, which leads to the appearance of type 2 diabetes. For this reason, the best way to deal with Diabesity is to change your lifestyle. Following a proper diet and performing physical activity to reduce excess body fat and especially excess intra-abdominal fat. Eliminating it helps reduce the risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes, as well as other cardiovascular ailments, such as excess cholesterol or hypertension. If you suffer from it, reducing excess fat helps control blood glucose levels and other associated alterations.
