Drinks that will help you sleep and control your weight
When we do not sleep well, the hormones to regulate appetite get out of control and an imbalance is created.
We more or less have the notion that sleeping well is good, even for weight loss. But why? It’s a great question that involves a bit of a scientific answer 😛 But in order not to get bogged down, in short: Your body produces 2 hormones to regulate appetite; ghrelin and leptin.** ghrelin, which we have already talked about previously, is what is responsible for triggering hunger.** leptin, on the other hand, is what is responsible for telling your brain that you are already full and is what regulates the use of the fat you have accumulated. And then, when you stop sleeping, sleep poorly or little, these hormones get out of control and an imbalance is created. This means that your ghrelin levels can skyrocket even though your body does not need to eat at that moment for example. These are not the only chemical reactions that come into play when it comes to sleeping and controlling your weight, and believe it or not, everything is related. We are now seeing why sleep is very important 🙂 Here we leave you 3 delicious drinks that you can try to help you relax and get to sleep, if you are like me and at 3am you are still tossing and turning in bed. They helped me a lot. Cherry and Aloe Vera Ingredients:
- 2-4 oz. cherry juice
- 1 oz. aloe vera juice
- Cold water Instructions:
- Mix the cherry juice and aloe vera juice in an 8 oz glass. and then fill it with cold water.
- Mix it well. Cherry juice has been shown to increase levels of melatonin, the sleep hormone. As a bonus, aloe contains plant sterols that help reduce fat deposits in the body. Hot milk and nutmeg Ingredients:
- 1 cup of milk or almond milk
- 1-2 teaspoon raw honey
- A pinch of freshly grated nutmeg (no more than 1/8 of a teaspoon) Instructions:
- Heat the milk and then let it cool until it doesn’t burn.
- Mix honey and grated nutmeg. Nutmeg has been used to relieve pain and calm indigestion. It is also known to have very mild sedative properties. Milk (both regular and almond milk) is high in tryptophan which helps induce sleep. Honey, apart from making the drink tastier, helps tryptophan get to where it needs to go to take effect 🙂 Valeriana root tea Valerian root is used to relax the nervous system. It comes from a flowering plant that has high concentrations of valeric acid. Not only does the root help you sleep, it also helps reduce anxiety, it is an effective remedy for headaches, indigestion and even menstrual cramps. To make valerian root tea, all you need is warm water, some fresh, dried, or ground valerian root (a teaspoon per cup of water), and something sweet to counteract the bitterness (honey or maple syrup will work well). Now, let’s sleep comfortably 🙂
