Eat healthy without being poor
Eat healthy while taking care of your finances? It's possible! We present you 6 tips to eat nutritious and delicious, without damaging your wallet.
Yes, eating healthily can be quite a challenge. Fruits, vegetables, different types of meats, cereals, seeds and etc. They can result in a super of worrying economic amounts. And going out to eat at a restaurant with healthy options is not cheap either. Believe me, it’s happened to me. There was a time when I flat out believed that eating healthy was something for people with more money It seemed impossible! But I refused to believe that I couldn’t, it seemed very ridiculous to me. So I paid attention and little by little I discovered what was happening and how I could turn this situation around 😉 This is what I discovered:
- Change your DRINK habits. I hadn’t realized it, but I was spending a lot on soft drinks and I badly got my family used to always having them in the house. Giving up soda and starting to make natural water was difficult at first and not everyone took it very well, but now it’s over, I save a lot of money and we drink a little healthier things.
- Ok, here you have to pay attention and learn a little. Buying a mango in season is not the same as buying it out of season. Always try to buy fruit that is in season.
- The leftover food. This did surprise me. When I cooked, sometimes there was a lot of food left over and even though if I put it away, the next morning or lunch I would be cooking something completely new. There’s nothing wrong with it, but a lot of leftover food went bad. A tremendous waste that, believe it or not, also hurts your wallet! Don’t waste.
- Foods of many faces. I mean there are many foods that you can cook differently that are not that expensive. Like tuna, pasta, eggs, tomatoes and even avocado. You can make many different dishes with them without having to buy very expensive things.
- Meat day by day. Eating meat, of any kind, sometimes we believe that it is the main thing in our diet, it is the main dish par excellence. And although it is very rich, it is not something that has to be present every day. You can begin to approach substitutes such as soy or different legumes. It is not to be done every day, of course, but varying the dishes in this way will help you save considerably.
- Look for local alternatives. Many times we depend a lot on the supermarket to buy fruits and vegetables that we only believe are good because… well, because they are in the supermarket and that’s it. What we often don’t know is that, depending on the area where we live, there are many local businesses that sell many products, including fruits, vegetables and meat from the region, at very low prices. It is worth taking a stroll through the local markets and shops. You don’t have to be a millionaire to eat healthy, it may require some sacrifices, but nothing really painful :)
