Juice Detox: Does it work?
Learn if it is really good to detoxify with juices.
The juice detox** continues to be a popular topic among all of us who want a healthier life. The problem is that understanding the human body is not an easy thing, there are entire careers dedicated to it and therefore, giving oneself totally to the “information” that is floating around the subject can be something dangerous. First of all, a lot of that “information” is actually just marketing. I also haven’t seen any mention of the logic that everyone probably has in mind when thinking about a juice detox. “Take a bunch of nutrient-dense foods in very high, concentrated doses and give it to your body over and over and over again.”** Is it healthy? Well, to be honest, it’s better than drinking soda, of course, but you have to face a few facts. Let’s see some truths about this:
- Cleanse: The real way your body cleans itself is at the cellular level. Autophagy is an essential cell renewal process. Help your body renew itself and basically be in better condition.** The reality is that our body already does an excellent job of cleaning itself. Our liver, kidneys and intestines take care of this and we expel what is no longer useful through urine, bowel movements, breathing and sweat. What things do you want to clean? These mysterious “toxins” that everyone keeps trying to cleanse themselves of have never been discovered.
- Weight Loss: It’s also no surprise that people lose weight by exclusively drinking juices. Drinking 800 calories a day from liquid vegetables and losing weight is a matter of simple math and not magic. The important thing here is that it’s not the juice doing the work; It is the lack of food. If you only drink juices you will be missing out on other things that your body needs, such as nutrients, protein and vitamins.
- Sugar: We are completely used to drinking something sweet, soft drinks, flavored waters, prepared drinks, etc. But we like them sweet. Believing that drinking only juices that are also sweet does nothing good for your sugar level. The fructose is still present and will also be absorbed and affect you in the last 2 points equally. Drinking juices exclusively is not highly recommended. Remember that it is not healthy to restrict your body for weeks from other nutritious foods that it definitely needs. However, it is a very good option to take out less nutritious things (especially drinks) and integrate them into your normal diet. Some people say it helps them break their unhealthy eating habits. And yes, for the first time, you’re probably eating fruits and vegetables. If you were considering doing a juice cleanse to lose weight, this is not the way to go. What you need is a real eating plan, one that helps you make the necessary lifestyle changes and also helps you be able to maintain them.
