Every time we read or see the word “superfoods”, we feel something inside of us. A small feeling of relief that we are eating that and not something else that could be harming us. And the truth is that that feeling is not in vain. Many of these superfoods are always going to be much better than any other more processed or fried option we can find. But they are not perfect foods. We must separate myth from reality. Not to stop them eating. But to have all the real information and be able to make better decisions when it comes to seeing what goes into our plate and what doesn’t. Let’s see some things that they don’t tell us about the most famous superfoods.

  • Quinoa: Its high fiber content, which can sometimes be a blessing, is also the reason why it sometimes irritates our stomach. There are many reports of people feeling bloated and even having a lot of gas after eating it.
  • Coconut water: Despite being very low in calories, a serving of this delicious drink has around 3 tablespoons of sugar. Which is half of what is recommended daily.
  • Acai Ballas: Very famous for having many antioxidants. But be careful, the other myth that surrounds them, where it is stated that they help to lose weight, has never been proven. There have been some investigations, but nothing concrete has been determined.
  • Kale or Kale: I don’t know exactly how this vegetable got so much fame and yes, it is very, very nutritious, but no more than other vegetables. Like others, it contains many good things for you, but it does not have any more outstanding properties than other vegetables.
  • Chia: These seeds are a delicacy. And while they are full of Omega-3, their process within the human body does not end up being as good at absorbing it as that of salmon, for example. And they do have a high calorie content. Again, don’t stop eating these super foods, of course they are very good for you, but don’t think that all the work will be done by these foods. We must have the correct information to be able to have a good balance in what ends up on our plate.
