Testing One thing that can make a difference, when faced with temptation in the form of bowls full of chips and candy, is using your non-dominant hand, instead of your dominant one (the one you tend to use for eating, writing, etc.). To test this, we asked for 50 volunteers to come and enjoy a free movie and popcorn. Half of the group were allowed to eat normally, while the other half had an oven mitt placed on their dominant hand. So they wouldn’t focus on what they were eating, the volunteers were told they were participating in a memory test and were asked to focus on the movie trailers. After the progress, we took the popcorn from all of them and the difference in consumption between the consumers with kitchen gloves and the other group was measured. The expected result would be that those who were forced to eat with their non-dominant hand would eat less. Apply this trick to lose weight. When watching a movie at home or at the theater, or in any environment where you can sit and eat your way through a mountain of snacks, use your non-dominant hand because you will be eating less and therefore consuming fewer calories.
