What are carbohydrates?

Today's topic of the day is carbohydrates; These are the ones that provide us with the main energy for vital activities.

Good morning! Today’s topic is carbohydrates or also called carbohydrates; These are the ones that provide us with the main energy for the vital activities of our body. Find out what carbohydrates are. Are they actually bad? Many of us have heard that eliminating carbohydrates from the diet helps us lose weight. That is why when some people go on a diet to lose weight, they stop consuming foods such as rice, pasta, bread, tortillas, etc. But this is a myth, losing weight is NOT about stopping eating any type of nutrient such as carbohydrates. But it consists of consuming less energy (calories) than we spend. But let’s not get confused, eating carbohydrates in quantities and portions larger than what we need will provide us with excess energy and therefore we would gain weight. But this does not mean that we should not consume carbohydrates since they are necessary nutrients for the proper functioning of the body, so if we eliminate them from the diet we will not allow the body to carry out its activities as it should and we will cause long-term damage. So we must keep in mind that we must consume carbohydrates in the diet since they are essential (as are proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water). We can find these in a large number of foods and variety. It is important that we consume them appropriately since they help us maintain a good metabolism in our body. Types of carbohydrates We have two types: simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. Simple ones like fruits, sweets, sweet bread or refined products, for example, give us energy. immediate action but it lasts a very short time and that is why we exhaust ourselves quickly, and it also releases large amounts of insulin quickly. And that is bad for our body because we must keep insulin levels controlled. Complex carbohydrates help us absorb glucose levels gradually and thus keep insulin levels controlled, which is the hormone that helps us regulate blood sugar levels – Hormone produced by the pancreas that acts as the key that opens the body’s cells so that glucose/sugar can enter. As examples we have pasta, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, etc. Now you know that it is better to consume complex carbohydrates since they are more nutritious and that we should avoid simple carbohydrates since they are little or not at all nutritious and usually high in energy (calories). With this we finish this topic and remember to take care of and balance your diet.
