What do you have to stop eating so that the cramps don't hurt so much?

What not many know is that what you eat affects the pain you feel

It goes without saying how uncomfortable and painful colic can be. What not many know is that what you eat affects the pain you feel. The hormone-like substances responsible for the pain and inflammation that cause these contractions are called prostaglandins. The more prostaglandins, the more cramps hurt. There are 3 types of prostaglandins, PG1, Pg2 and Pg3, and each has different functions. PG1 and Pg3 are more anti-inflammatory, and Pg2 is pro-inflammatory, this means that it increases inflammation, constricts blood vessels and stimulates blood clotting. Well, to help with these substances, we recommend avoiding or reducing the following foods:

  • Vegetable cooking oils: corn, soy, canola, sunflower, safflower. These oils are extremely refined and harmful to your health. Swap them for coconut oil or olive oil.
  • Processed foods:  Look for healthier options, making sure to check labels.
  • Grain-fed chicken, red meat and fish. When you eat meat, you are also eating what you ate. Wild-raised animals primarily eat things like insects and grass, but factory-farmed animals are fed a diet containing canola, corn, soybeans, and more.
  • Avoiding factory-grown foods will help with colic and will also minimize your exposure to pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones. Instead, eat grass-fed beef, wild-caught fish, and organic chicken.
  • Dairy. Milk, cheese and ice cream contain high levels of arachidonic acid, a direct precursor of pro-inflammatory PG2
  • Coffee. Constricts blood vessels and blood flow, causing more painful cramps.
  • Trans fat. Less fried foods such as French fries, spring rolls and chicken nuggets, as well as most commercial baked goods such as donuts, cakes, etc.
  • Sugar and simple carbohydrates. Desserts and baked goods like white bread, bagels, cookies, pasta and pizza make cramps much worse. Yes, there are a lot of foods, but not only will it help you not hurt so much, it will also ensure a healthier diet 🙂
